The ideology of Negus Enterprises LLC was born from my personal truth. I had no knowledge of my family history, oral or otherwise. I submerged myself into learning of the ancient people of African descent as a whole. I totally skipped behind the American slave trade and delved into the beauty and awe of North Eastern Africa.
I chose this area for quite a few reasons. First, ancient Kush and Kemet (now known as Ethiopia and Egypt respectively) have been proven to have the oldest known human remains. One of the oldest spoken languages (Amharic, which is still not totally deciphered) belongs to this region. Due to the fact that the region has the longest standing time period (on the African continent) of no Christian influence keeps their ancient practices intact. Finally, based on the geographic location and positioning near the equator, the people there are unarguably melanated, like the indigenous people there today. Ancient Kush is the first civilized nation, dating back millennia before Christ. This is a truth I wholeheartedly believe should be shared with the world. The historical significance makes me wonder who our Kushite and Kemetic ancestors were, and how we as a whole relate to them.
I chose Negus as the name for one simple reason: it translates to English form Amharic as “King”. It is so closely related to the derogatory term ni__er, that it is time for us as a nation to understand where this term derives from. I want this generation to be credited for annihilating this word from our vocabulary as a derogatory term AND understand that it is a part of our history and actually a term that was originated, and used for royalty in Kush.
